While one would imagine sad sights of ruination at a bomb site, one beach proudly claims to be the contrary. Formed by the explosion tests conducted by the Mexican Government, this blasted area now makes a spectacular hidden beach. This gem is on one of the uninhabited places in Marietas islands off the coast of Nayarit near Peurto Vallarta.
It was a glorious day as we set off on the boat to see this little wonder. Being out on the ocean in the month of November brings it own benefits. We saw a lot of whales making their annual ride down south for warmer waters. And we were lucky enough to get a full show as a whale dived out. It was mighty and yet looked so graceful.
As we approached the island, we got glimpse of what lies ahead as the sky started filling with birds. There are many species of aquatic and non aquatic birds on this protected sanctuary. The only way to get to the hidden beach is to cross a narrow tunnel on low tides, and as we waited for one, we snorkeled. A few others chose to sea kayak in the pacific ocean. There are lot of good snorkeling spots around the island. We saw schools of fish and beautiful corals.

We swam through a narrow dark tunnel and finally got to this hidden beach of Mexico. The white sand beach isn’t very big but it sure is a remarkable one. There is a small cave to the side waiting to be explored.

You can then just relax as the sun shines on the sandy beach and the crystal clear warm water. Remember to take the last boat out unless you want to be stranded on an island with possibly no one else.

There are many tour operators who make the boat ride to get to this hidden beach in Mexico. Most of them start off the coast of Peurto Vallarta. If you are among the people who would avoid long hours on the sea and get to the beach sooner, you can drive to Punta Mita and take one of the small boats. We chose the longer route and went with vallarta adventures. They have an amazing crew who kept us entertained throughout the way and served us scrumptious lunch with cocktails.
