The blades of grass still carried the rain droplets from yesterday nights pour, the wind is still fierce but the clouds have parted and the Beagle channel glows in a vivid blue through the tall glass window, the mountains of Tierra Del Fuego just got a dusting of snow and everything around had a happy aura. I sip on my morning coffee and eat another bite of the dulce de Leche stuffed pancake and think end of the world sure feels good. Like they say save the best for the end, a stay at Arakur is the best waiting at the end of the world.
Arakur as seen from the Beagle channel
In Ushaia, the southernmost city everything is about superlatives. The fitting end to a pan American adventure, the start of an Antarctica cruise it is a special place to many. We arrived here to start our Patagonian adventure that we had been waiting for long. Perched high on a hill top, Arakur blends well with its surrounding lush landscapes. Straddled between the Beagle channel, the high mountains of Tierra Del Fuego it felt like a retreat. At Arakur it is impossible to deny that warmth of being in nature’s cradle. Arakur takes excellent advantage of this location with floor to ceiling windows in all the common areas. All rooms have either the channel or mountain views.
Views from Arakur are like a painting hanging from a wall
Thick Sliding curtains allowed us a good sleep even in the long summer days. We shed off our jet lag in comfort. Every room has views overlooking the sea or the mountains. We chose the one with a mountain view and woke up to hanging glaciers staring back out of the window. The windows sill was a great corner to read a book and enjoy the peace of this place.
Our room at Arakur
The breakfast was a mix of buffet and ala carte. The spread comprised of an array of cold cuts, artisan cheeses, gourmet breads, assortment of Argentiean sweets and loads of freshly squeezed juices. Their dulce de leche was the best we had and we ate it everyday with everything. Their made to order menu of eggs, French toast and pancakes made for an indulgent breakfast. For dinner, the in house restaurant La Cravia makes for a romantic affair combining delightful food and fine views. Their Argentinean grilled delicacies came highly recommended and we couldn’t deny the exemplary taste.
The pools are straight out of a postcard
The spa area was our absolute favorite. With a fully equipped gym, and a huge pool area all overlooking the sea our evenings were spent working out the gastronomic sins of the day. The heated pools overlooking the Beagle channel look like they just walked out of a postcard.
Now who could resist a swim here?
